What is a Call-to-Action?

In marketing, a Call-to-Action, or more commonly referred to as a 'CTA', is an instruction to the audience to provoke an immediate response.  An example would be 'Call Now!' or 'Schedule a free consultation'.

How to add a call-to-action button to your Facebook Page

Once you are logged into your Facebook Page (a Page is a business page not a personal account, as indicated by the capital 'P' in Page), you will see a button overlaying your cover photo that reads, 'Create Call-to-Action', click it.

You will then see a dialog box pop-up, that will give you some choices related to your button on the left, along with a preview of how the button will look to users on a website, iPhone or Android on your right.

Under 'Choose a Button', select the style of call-to-action button you want from the drop-down menu. After you choose your button, you will see a preview to your right of how it will look.

Once you select your button, you will want to complete the remaining information to finish setting up the button. For instance, if you choose 'Contact Us', you will also need to enter a website URL where you want the user to go when clicked. When you are finished, click 'Create'.

Next, you will be asked if you want to Promote Your Call-to-Action. You can choose to proceed to promoting your ad, which is a paid for service offered by Facebook.  Or you can choose, Not Now to continue without promotion. Click 'Not Now', you can always choose to promote later.

Now, you will see you newly created Call-to-Action button. If you click it, you will see a number of options to choose from relating to your new button such as edit, delete and more.

It is important to know that currently, Facebook Call-to-Action buttons only appear to users logged in to Facebook. If you are not logged in, this button will not display.
